It has been over three years since I began following a plant based a diet and in that time I have hardly ever gotten sick! Maybe two memorable times other than that nothing. I will occasionally feel something coming on. The feeling of a tickle in your throat or sneezing more often. When I sense something coming on I pull out my remedies and I usually notice symptoms taper off within a few days and I am back to normal!
The first thing I do if I catch it early enough is start a zinc supplement. I also begin drinking 3-4 cups (increasing as needed) of Echinacea tea. I absolutely love essential oils! Try a mixture of orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils. Keep it on your nightstand and put a few drops on the bottom of your feet at bedtime or anytime you feel you need an immunity boost!
Green juice is also essential! My favorite is a mixture of freshly juice wheatgrass, kale, ginger, celery, green apple and lemon from the juice bar. This is a great way to get a lot of nutrients into your body quickly! Get it fresh and organic! In addition to my morning green smoothie at home with kale, spinach or arugula I will have an afternoon smoothie and add in some ginger.
Oregano oil is a great anti viral and bacterial tincture. I dilute it with water or if I am feeling brave put a few drops under my tongue-hold it there for a minute then wash it down with a cup of water 1-3 times a day. The Oregano oil I buy at Ada’s is diluted with a carrier oil (olive) for safety. Oregano oil alone can cause severe burns to your mouth or skin. It is strong stuff!
My last (but not least) line of defense from sickness is SLEEP! Lots of sleep! Your body is in rest, recovery, and detoxify mode when you sleep. My sister-in-law gave me a great gift recently, a simple eye mask to wear in bed. Great for helping you sleep during the day if you’re sensitive to light. I use to have to drug myself with a nighttime cold medicine during he day to sleep-not any more!

2 cups Leafy green (spinach, kale, arugula, or mixture of all 3)
quarter size chunk of fresh ginger
¼ fresh lemon juice
1 celery stick
1 green apple
½ cup frozen pineapple
1 ripe banana
¼ fresh orange juice
Top with water & blend
